Hi guys, am new year, just a quick Q, if you did an internship before obtaining your PMQ and have completed it, are you able to undertake FY ? Could this be an alternative option to be able to get a PLAB 1 seat?
Do you mean Foundation Year-2 Standalone?
PLAB and FY2 are two different things.
FY2 is a training programme and you need to be registered with the GMC in order to apply. PLAB is a required exam to be granted such registration.
You can apply to FY2-Standalone even if you have an acceptable overseas internship.
So no, it is not an alternative pathway.
Other PLAB-free routes for GMC registration would be:
- Postgraduate qualifications, such as MRCP and MRCS.
- Sponsorship
- Or to apply as a specialist (meaning doing an overseas residency)
