First, EPIC is the electronic portal through which the ECFMG will ensure that your submitted PMQ or other documents related to your PMQ is legitimate. In short EPIC is a service under ECFMG whose job is to verify your credentials. And I think ECFMG registration has to deal with those applying to write the STEPS.

Well about when and how: i think its good to start asap when you receive your final PMQ. An ideal time will be after PLAB 1. How fast the process will be depends on your university response to them.

You will need to make an account with EPIC here : https://epic.ecfmgepic.org/Registration.aspx

These are the basic things they will ask for;

  • A scanned, full-color copy of the photograph page of your current, unexpired passport
  • A scanned, full-color copy of the page that contains your passport expiration date, if applicable;
  • A scanned, full-color copy of the section of your passport that is in Latin characters, if applicable;
  • A full-color photograph of yourself
  • Information about your medical education, including your medical school identification number (if applicable) and attendance and degree issue dates;
  • Your medical licensure information, including any identification numbers;
  • Your USMLE/ECFMG Identification Number (if you have one); and
  • Your ECFMG International Credentials Services (EICS) Identification Number (if you have one)
